Malou Garofalo


Born in Luxembourg in 1984, Malou Garofalo started playing the clarinet under the supervision of Francis Schummer at the Conservatoire in Esch/Alzette at the age of 6.

Having obtained the 'diplôme supérieur' in clarinet and chamber music, as well as different diplomas in harmonics, bass clarinet, piano, counterpoint, theoretical and practical teaching, sight-reading and transposition, she perfected her skills at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels (Belgium) with Ronald van Spaendonck for two years.

Malou continued her studies with Eduard Brunner at the Hochschule für Musik Saar, where she received the diploma 'Konzertreife' in clarinet (2009) and chamber music (2011).

At the same time she worked with Olivier Dartevelle at the Conservatoire du Luxembourg and received the Concert Diploma. Working and perfecting her technique with renowned professors such as Wolfgang Meyer, Walter Boeykens, Sharon Kam, Michel Arrignon and Martine Leblanc helped to advance her musical development.

Malou has won awards at several international competitions such as the Concours pour Jeunes Solistes in Luxembourg, the Concours de la Yamaha Music Foundation, the International Forum (chamber music competition) and the Torneo Internazionle di Musica.

She worked as an intern at the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra for two years.

She has been a member of the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra (OCL) since 2011. She regularly performs in concert, as a soloist and as a member of the Trio Aurora. In 2013 she started working as a Clarinet teacher at the Conservatoire in Esch/Alzette.
